Father Justin considers how God's love for us in Christ is so like the love of a mother, who is there for us through thick and thin and whose role is not to keep us from having to sit on "benches" we find difficult or unpleasant (Dr. Becky's metaphor for life experiences) but is to sit on the bench with us. This is just what Jesus prays for in his high-priestly prayer in the Gospel of John.
